Cheap Car Insurance, Theft & Security
Finally, good news for drivers all over the UK! Yes, there is something to celebrate out there at the moment… especially if you own one of a handful of the most secure cars in the country. The numbers of vehicles stolen have dramatically reduced in the past twelve months. That means no elevated premiums as a result of crime, reduced risk of theft in most areas of the UK and greater security for your vehicles. Of course, that is not to say that your insurer will lower your premiums. They may even blame crime for a rise. However, it does mean that there are some insurers out there that will reward the security of certain cars and reduce the amount you have to pay to insure them.
In 2010, just 107,000 vehicles were stolen in the UK and most were in excess of three years old. This may still sound like a high number but when you compare it to the 119,000 in 2009, 143,000 in 2008 and even the 600,000 in 1990, it is a major reduction. Car crime is undoubtedly on its way down and so car owners can have peace of mind. However, there are plenty of reasons as to why this has happened.
The first is that there have been numerous measures introduced to help reduce car crime. For example, PCSOs are more visible today than police were in most areas some time ago. This has increased the risk of getting caught. People are also far more aware of measures that they can take to reduce the risk of their vehicle going missing. They are fitting immobilisers, tracking devices and all sorts of other technological gadgets to keep their car safe. As such, motorists are spending money on taking responsibility for their own cars. That is not to say that we cannot do more to secure our cars. Locking them away in garages is always a big deterrent, as is leaving them on a drive with a gate overnight and applying the alarm.
In addition to these figures, the 2011 British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards were revealed and Volkswagen, Audi and Volvo were all named as the securest manufacturers out there. The individual cars mentioned as the safest and most secure were the city car or supermini Audi A1,the Volvo C30 small family car and the family car Citroen C5 Exclusive. If you have one of these cars then you will be happy to know that it is more than likely to stay with you thanks to its amazing security.
