Home Insurance & DIY
Spring and summer are generally the seasons that see a major increase in DIY related home insurance claims. It seems to be the rule that when the sun comes out, so do the hammers, nails and glue guns. If we’re taking it to the ext step then so do the patios, conservatories and extensions. For some, any DIY related accidents are fine because they are minor and homeowners can either cover the cost or alternatively claim on accidental damage clauses in their home insurance policies. Could you claim?
This question has bugged many a homeowner in the past because many policies do not have accidentaly damage cover as standard anymore. In fact, it is usually an elective rather than a given so if you think that you have that cover butunchecked boxes to make your final premium cheaper then the likelihood is that you do not. Before starting DIY work, check your home insurance policy and get the cover on there if you think for even a split second that youmay need it.
